Service Punta Arenas - Magdalena Island

 

Description

Located in the Strait of Magellan, latitude 52°51’ south and longitude 70°34’ west, 20 nautical miles north of Punta Arenas.

Navigation along the Strait for 2 hours on the same route taken by Francis Drake, Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa, Ferdinand Magellan and Charles Darwin. Disembark on Magdalena Island.

This wild area was declared a National Park and a Natural Monument in 1982.

The objective is to protect the birds-penguins of this island. There are approximately 60,000 pairs of Magellan penguins, being one of the largest penguin colony in southern Chile.

The season to go there is from December to February. The landing craft leaves Tres Puentes terminal in Punta Arenas at 16:00 P.M. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and returns at 21:30 P.M. (This schedule must be confirmed in advance)
