Since 2016, Transbordadora Austral Broom, has the responsability of connect Aysén and Magallanes regions, fulfilling and old dream of inhabitants of both regions, that is the conectivity through chilean territory. A 41 hours trip where ferry Crux Australis will go through beautiful southern landscapes that can enjoy up to 146 passengers, on reclining sits, coffee shop, tv screens, audio systems and entertainment for kids.
This trip, that is subsidized by chilean goberment, will have intermediate stops on Caleta Tortel and Puerto Edén, with special rates for local residents.
Due to the increasing demand of connecting the Chilean-Argentinian Patagonia Island of Tierra del Fuego with the continent, Transbordadora Austral Broom established a maritime transporting service, in 1968, at the east inlet of the Strait of Magellan.
This is certainly the most beautiful trip that a traveler can take. Fjords, glaciers, everlasting snow-covered peaks, rivers and seas illustrate wonderful sceneries for passengers who navigate the southern channels along the Beagle channel to Puerto Williams.
20 nautical miles north of Punta Arenas there´s “Magdalena Island”, located in the Strait of Magellan, at latitude 52°51’south and longitude 70°34’ west. This wild area was declared a National Park and a Natural Monument in 1982.
This service is provided by launches Toucan and Skua which is exclusively used to transport pilots to the ships that navigate across the east inlet of the Strait of Magellan. Our pilots, who have a great knowledge in navigating this area, assist ships to cross this southern region, making navigation safer.
Rio Verde´s terminal is located 90km NW from Punta Arenas, through route 9 till km 48 North, and continuing over the route Y-50.
